Overview
On June 30, 2021, a 3rd party security research submitted a report accusing the DIR-171 Rev. Cx using the MS Windows driver v3.03 or v3.01 of a Unquoted Service Path Privilege Escalation vulnerability. This vulnerability was confirmed and a patch was issued too close the reported issues. The Path setting not enclosed in quotation marks. Without the Quotation mark, windows will attempt to find the exe it is looking for in every folder. So the first exe found in the path will be executed. An attacker with local access can create a DWA_171.exe file in the D-link folder to perform a privilege escalation attack.
