(Non-US) DSL-224 :: F/W v3.0.8 :: Command Injection can elevate to ROOT access

Overview

 

On July 2022,  3rd party security researchers coordinating with Cyber Isreal reported the (Non-US) D-Link DSL-224with firmware version v3.0.8 as having an command injection vulnerability that can elevate into credential disclosure.  

 

As soon as D-Link was made aware of the reported security issues, we had promptly started our investigation and began developing security patches.

 

D-Link takes the issues of network security and user privacy very seriously. We have a dedicated task force and product management team on call to address evolving security issues and implement appropriate security measures.

         The device has an interface where you can configure NTP servers (Network Time Protocol) via jsonrpc API.  It is possible to inject a command through this interface that will run with ROOT permissions on the router
