DWA-171 : H/W Rev. Cx :: F/W MS Windows Driver v3.04b02 Hot-Fix Beta 2 and Below (older) :: Unquoted Service Path Privilege Escalation

Overview

On January 9, 2023, a 3rd party security research submitted a report accusing the DIR-171 Rev. Cx using the MS Windows driver v3.04b02 Hot-Fix Beta 2 and below of two (2) Unquoted Service Path Privilege Escalation vulnerabilities This vulnerability was confirmed and a patch was issued too close the reported issues.  Please find the beta/hotfix release below.

                  The vulnerability is classified as an "unquoted service path" vulnerability, and leads to a local privilege escalation. Please note that this vulnerability affects both the the ALPBCSVC.exe service executable file, and WifiAutoInstallSrv.exe service executable file.

 

          Critical Note for Patching Risk

 

                        - User must uninstall existing driver prior to installing new fix linked below

                        - In order for the fix to be complete the user must complete the installation with the new setup.exe and complete the instructions from the installation.
