Overview

The DIR-853, including all models, derivative models, hardware revisions, and firmware versions, reached its End-of-Life (EOL) / End-of-Service Life (EOS) lifecycle on 03/31/2024.

D-Link Corporation and D-Link North America, D-Link Systems, Inc., recommend that all current users take one or more of the following actions:

  1. Transition to a current-generation product that has active firmware development and customer support.

  2. Perform a comprehensive backup of any relevant configuration or user data.

  3. Contact the appropriate local regional D-Link office for further recommendations or information.

By standard industry practice, products that have reached EOL/EOS status may no longer receive technical support, firmware updates, security updates, or vulnerability remediation. Please review the information and recommendations below.

Recommendation for End-of-Support / End-of-Life Products

From time to time, D-Link determines that certain products have reached End of Support (EOS) or End of Life (EOL). D-Link may designate a product as EOS/EOL due to the evolution of technology, changes in market demand, product maturity, product efficiencies made possible by newer technologies, or the availability of functionally superior replacement products.

Once a product has reached EOS/EOL, extended support, active development, firmware maintenance, and security remediation are generally no longer available.

For these products, D-Link is typically unable to resolve device or firmware issues because product development and customer support have ceased.

D-Link strongly recommends that the DIR-853 be retired and replaced with a current-generation product that continues to receive active support and firmware maintenance.

If a user continues to operate the DIR-853 against D-Link’s recommendation, D-Link advises taking appropriate risk-reduction measures, including ensuring the device is running the latest available firmware, changing the device’s administrator password regularly, using a strong and unique password, enabling Wi-Fi encryption, and avoiding exposure of the device’s management interface to the public internet.
