Overview
On November 2, 2026, D-Link received a coordinated vulnerability disclosure concerning multiple security vulnerabilities identified during an independent security assessment of the D-Link DGS-3130-30TS managed switch.
The reported vulnerabilities involve the D-Link Discovery Protocol (DDP) and certain components of the device's firmware security architecture. According to the security researcher, successful exploitation of certain vulnerabilities may allow an attacker with access to the affected network to obtain sensitive device information, perform unauthorized administrative operations, modify device configuration, or disrupt network services.
The researcher has demonstrated exploitation through controlled testing. D-Link is investigating the reported findings, applicable firmware versions, and potential impact on other product models.
Interim advisory: D-Link is publishing this interim security advisory before corrective firmware is available so customers can take immediate action to reduce potential exposure.
At the time of publication, D-Link Corporation's Research and Development team is reviewing the reported vulnerabilities and evaluating the required security corrections. No confirmed firmware release date is available.
Vulnerability Details
The security report identifies several categories of vulnerabilities.
1. D-Link Discovery Protocol (DDP)
The reported findings concern weaknesses in DDP authentication, access control, and information handling.
Potential security impacts include:
• Unauthorized access to DDP administrative functions.
• Disclosure of sensitive device and network configuration information.
• Unauthorized changes to administrative credentials.
• Device resets, service disruption, or loss of configuration.
• Exposure of SNMP community information that could facilitate additional unauthorized device management.
The researcher reports successful reproduction of several conditions on the assessed DGS-3130-30TS hardware.
2. Device Firmware Security
Additional findings concern the implementation of certain firmware security mechanisms, including:
• SSH service security configuration.
• Protection of operating-system credentials.
• Firmware encryption and protection of embedded cryptographic material.
D-Link is evaluating these findings independently of the DDP vulnerabilities because disabling DDP does not, by itself, correct weaknesses elsewhere in the firmware.
3. Vulnerability Identification
Multiple findings have been submitted for CVE assignment or have received reserved identifiers.
The associated CVE records have not yet been publicly disclosed. D-Link will update this advisory with the applicable identifiers, technical classifications, and confirmed security impact as disclosure coordination progresses.

The DGS-3130-30TS hardware revision B1 is the product used in the researcher's confirmed testing. The firmware versions listed above were examined as part of the research; individual findings may apply to different subsets of these versions.
D-Link is conducting an impact assessment to determine whether additional models, hardware revisions, or firmware versions share affected components.
The inclusion of other product families in the investigation does not establish that they are vulnerable.
Recommended Customer Action — Immediate Mitigation
Action required: Customers operating the DGS-3130-30TS should review and apply the following interim security measures without waiting for a firmware update.
1. Disable D-Link Discovery Protocol (DDP)
Priority: Immediate
The primary recommended mitigation is to disable DDP globally and on applicable switch interfaces.
The DGS-3130 CLI supports the command:
no ddp
This command can be issued in global configuration mode and in interface configuration mode.
Customers should:
1. Access the switch using an authorized management connection.
2. Disable DDP globally.
3. Disable DDP on applicable physical interfaces.
4. Verify the resulting DDP configuration using the available
show ddp commands.
5. Save the updated configuration using the documented procedure and confirm that the settings persist following a restart.
The security researcher reported that disabling DDP globally and at the interface level prevented the tested DDP attack vectors from being processed by the affected switch. D-Link is independently reviewing this mitigation. It should not be interpreted as a correction for unrelated firmware vulnerabilities.
Disabling DDP may affect network discovery or management workflows that depend on the protocol.
2. Remove Default SNMP Community Strings
Priority: Immediate
Customers should review SNMP settings and remove unnecessary or default community strings, particularly:
•
public — commonly configured for read-only access.
•
private — commonly configured for read/write access.
The DGS-3130 CLI provides commands to remove configured SNMP communities:
no snmp-server community public
no snmp-server community private
Customers should verify the applicable command syntax for their installed firmware and review any additional configured communities.
Where SNMP is required, D-Link recommends using appropriately secured SNMPv3 configurations with authentication and privacy, where supported, and restricting SNMP management to specifically authorized hosts.
Important: Removing SNMP community configurations does not independently resolve the reported DDP information-disclosure issue. Disabling DDP remains the primary interim mitigation.
3. Restrict Management Network Access
Priority: Immediate
D-Link recommends that customers:
• Restrict SSH, web management, and SNMP access to designated management systems and authorized administrators.
• Avoid exposing management services directly to the public Internet.
• Use appropriate firewall rules and upstream network access controls to limit unnecessary management traffic.
• Disable management services that are not operationally required.
• Review management VLANs and connected network segments for unauthorized device access.
Based on the researcher's findings, customers should not rely exclusively on the switch's management access-control settings or VLAN separation to mitigate the reported DDP issues.
4. Review Device Configuration and Monitor for Unexpected Changes
Priority: Recommended
Network administrators should:
• Maintain verified backups of switch configurations.
• Review administrative credentials and configured management access.
• Monitor for unexpected device restarts, configuration changes, interface shutdowns, and factory resets.
• Review available management logs and network monitoring records for indications of unauthorized activity.
• Investigate unexplained administrative-access changes or interruption of network services.
If unauthorized access or configuration changes are suspected, customers should follow their organization's established security incident-response procedures.
5. Monitor for Security Firmware Updates
Priority: Ongoing
D-Link is working with its development and security teams to review the reported vulnerabilities and determine appropriate corrective actions.
Customers should monitor the official D-Link security announcement and product support websites for updated information.
A validated security firmware release will be identified in this advisory when available.
Regarding the Security Update for Your D-Link Device
At the time of this announcement, a corrective firmware release addressing the reported findings is not yet available.
D-Link's investigation includes DDP authentication and access controls, firmware credential protection, and firmware security mechanisms. The required changes are undergoing technical assessment. Because these changes may affect core device-management and firmware functions, D-Link will conduct appropriate engineering review and validation before identifying a corrective release.
No release schedule has been confirmed.
D-Link will update this announcement as additional verified information becomes available, including affected-product scope, applicable security updates, and installation guidance. The interim mitigations described above should remain in place until D-Link provides revised security guidance.
Hardware Revision and Firmware Notice
D-Link products may be manufactured in different hardware revisions. Firmware intended for one revision may not be compatible with another revision of the same model.
Before installing any firmware update, customers should:
1. Verify the exact product model.
2. Confirm the hardware revision shown on the product label.
3. Identify the currently installed firmware version.
4. Download only firmware intended for the applicable model and hardware revision.
5. Follow the applicable D-Link firmware installation instructions.
6. Verify successful installation by checking the firmware version displayed by the device.
Customers should not assume that an existing firmware release addresses the vulnerabilities described in this notice unless D-Link explicitly identifies that release as containing the applicable corrections.
